Working Mom Wednesday - An Announcment

Dear Friends,

If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you may have already caught on... or maybe not, I've been trying to keep it quiet.  Here is my big news... this Friday is my last day of work.  As of November 1st, I will be a stay at home mommy.

It finally got to the point that my health issues were really interfering with my job.  My boss has been more than understanding for the past couple of rough years and I completely respect his decision to find someone who can be in the office consistently.  I will be getting unemployment so that will soften the blow of the lost income, but I have to admit I am a little scared.

I don't know if scared is the right word, apprehensive, maybe? Obviously, the lack of income is a main concern. But I think for me, the biggest thing is that, for the first time in my adult life, I will be unemployed. I will have no job.  I've worked since I was 15 and always had a job.  A coffee stand, an ice cream store, the bead store, and the law office.

I've never had to struggle to find a job.  I got my job at the bead store kind of by default, I was dating the owner's son, after all.  I was in the store one day shopping and his mother asked me if I wanted a job, I said yes and showed up the next day.  I worked there for nearly 5 years.  Even this job pretty much fell into my lap.  My friend worked for my boss (he is her grandfather) she wanted less hours and I wanted a new job.  That was 7 years ago.

Seven years of my life have been dedicated to this job.  No, it wasn't my favorite.  I've never been a fan of paperwork.  And lets be honest, as a Legal Assistant, paper work is all I do.  But it was still a good job.  I've had great benefits and perks, a lot of flexibility and the most understanding boss in the world.  I've been pretty happy, albeit a bit lonely here.  I am also a social person and I miss the constant person-to-person interactions I had when working retail.  Sure, I work with clients on a daily basis, but the contact is limited and, well, paperwork.  Also, I don't have any co-workers other than my boss.  It's not like I'd spend my day chatting it up, but having someone to relate to is essential in relieving job stress.  There are other people that work in this office (though not for my boss) but they aren't technically "co-workers."

It's a little sad though, thinking about the cases I've worked on and the relationships I have formed with clients.  I know this office back and forth.  The clients, the cases... I'm invested in so many things here.  I personally care about many of these clients and their cases.  There are people I want so much to succeed and have their wrongs be righted.  It's sad to know that I won't see the cases to completion and won't get to share in the joy of our clients.  It wasn't my favorite work, but it was and is rewarding.
I'm also scared to be a stay at home mom.  I'll be completely honest, this terrifies me more than anything.  I have been known to have a tough time on the weekends, let alone seven days a week.  We are going to try and keep Goose in daycare.  Not only for my sanity, but for hers.  She loves to learn and loves her friends, it would break my heart to separate her from something she loves so much.  But I'm also excited because, other than my maternity leave, I have never been able to stay home with Goose.  I'm already planning outings with other mommy friends and craft projects.

And craft projects... I will have time to break into my craft room and go crazy! I plan on working on my Etsy store, any extra money I can bring in will help.  Hopefully, I can spend more time on my blog too.  Maybe I can even become a "real" blog with giveaways and sponsors and stuff.  Or maybe I'll just start with my Etsy store and go from there.  Anything I can do from home I'm gonna have to try!

Mostly, though, I am EXCITED! I've never had to struggle for a job.  I've never had to look.  I've never had an opportunity like this.  I have been tossing around several ideas for a while that are looking like more of a possibility than ever.  (I don't want to say anything in case I jinx it! ::knockonwood::)  I'm not worried about not finding anything.  I'm not planning on looking for a while (provided we can make it work financially) because I need to focus on my health right now and get my shizz figured out.  I need to get healthy before I can responsibly and professionally look for a job.

I'm hoping that by the closing of this door, another will open.  It usually does.  And I hope that it will be better.  I can only have faith that this is the path I am meant to take.  This has been an incredibly tumultuous time in my life and I have to trust and have faith that its where I am meant to be.  It's not up for me to question just to act.

This may be my last Working Mom Wednesday post for a while. I've had a wonderful time following Julia's meme and will continue to visit those that link up to it!

About Us - Autumn Edition

We know how to have fun.

We like to make jokes.
About chocolate cake.

Sometimes, we act like monkeys!
Photobucket

But we always love each other!

Fall is the perfect time of year to get outside and explore your community.
We are blessed to have dozens of parks in our small town.
Every year, we make a point to explore our enviornment and learn about nature.

I like to hunt for mushrooms.
I like to smell the damp air.
I like to feel the mud squish under my boots.
I love to hear Goose laugh as she jumps in puddles.
I love the Pacific Northwest and I love FALL!

Do you have any special fall activities for your family?

Fall Flashback - 2006

I was going through my pictures today because I wanted to share these pics with a friend who just had a baby.  Goose is just about 7 months old in these pictures and it was her first Halloween, all the way back in 2006.  It was before I had a blog, so I'm not sure that I've ever shared these picures here before.  I did a few edits in Picnik (I used the Lomo-ish and Holga-ish actions) and I am really happy with them.  These pictures were taken with a regular old point and shoot, pre-DSLR days, but they came out great.  And yes, that is a REAL pumpkin! It was the biggest one I could carry off the patch.

I can't believe my big girl Goose was ever small enough to fit in a pumpkin!

Things That People Without Kids Get To Do

This weekend we found ourselves suddenly and unexpectedly without child.
My mother in law was going to visit family and she wanted a traveling companion.
"SHE'S ALL YOURS!" We both said gladly.
Goose loves her cousin on the "other side of the mountains."
Her and Aubrey are "BEST FRIENDS."

And Friday afternoon, off they went to Kennewick.
We got off work at 5, got home at 5:15 and sat.
We stared at each other.
We walked in circles.
We watched a TV show that we can't watch when Goose is home.
South Park, if you were wondering.

Then we cleaned the kitchen. Together.
And made dinner.
Together.
Hawaiian meatball subs. From scratch. Yumm!
And we didn't eat 'till after 8!

meatballs, teriyaki BBQ sauce, pineapple, grilled onions and Swiss cheese.

We called some friends over and then walked to the bar and played some pool.
It was pretty cool.
Hubs plays pool every week or so at this tavern that's a block away from our house.

Normally, I stay home, because, ya know, someone has to stay with the kid.
But this time I GOT TO GO!
I'm not any good at pool, but its fun to play.

We went to bed at 3 am and didn't get up 'till 10.
When we got up I asked Hubs, "What do people without kids watch on the weekends?"
I flipped through the channels and almost wished Goose was home so I could have an excuse to watch cartoons.  Don't judge me.

And then I cleaned. We cleaned.
Scrubbed the kitchen.
Scrubbed the toilet.
Swept. Mopped. Vacuumed.

And it actually stayed that way!

I even cleaned Goose's room! I was mighty proud of myself.
I love a clean house. I would just love for someone else to clean it.
But I was in a mood and wasn't about to quit.
Still didn't have the will to fight the laundry monster though.
I washed it all... its just on the couch, waiting to be folded.

We didn't make breakfast and had an early lunch so around 4 pm we decided to go get food.
Greasy burgers from the best place in town.
With extra goop!

We took our dinner back home and finished eating and it was only 5 pm.  We had a whole night ahead of us and no plans what-so-ever.
A movie?
Why not?
I searched movie times on my phone (and the Flixster app for Blackberry is AWESOME, btw!)
and we decided to go see The Town directed by Ben Affleck.]

We decided we were bored at 5 pm.
By 6, we had decided on a movie.
And we were in our seats at 7:05 pm.
Just like that. No babysitter. No messing around.

I've never been Ben Affleck's biggest fan.
I love Mallrats and Dogma, but he always played a douche and that's kinda how I saw him.
But ladies, let me tell you, that man has gotten hotter with age.
And the whole "devoted dad, husband, family man" image doesn't hurt.
It reminded me alot like "Departed" with a similar style to "The Shawshank Redemption."
We were both pleased with our choice.

We came home and I made (and destroyed a cake.)
It's a good thing taste buds don't have eyes, cuz it tastes GREAT!

It was 10:30 pm or so, and we were bored.
And wired from cake.
And tipsy from wine.
So, hubs decided we should get some beer.
We collected all the change in the house (cuz we are cool like that) and decided to walk to the gas station down the road.

It was POURING, I mean, just DUMPING rain.
My feet were soaked before we left the driveway.
My coat, completely soaked after a block.
On the way home I ditched my coat and walked in the rain.
It wasn't even that cold.

It's the Water

Then we got home. Drank some beer. Watched TV.
We did "those things" that people do when they love each other, very much.

Then we slept in.
Late.

Hubs made me breakfast in bed but I was hungover.
I don't normally drink enough to be hungover.
I was so glad that my singing Goose wasn't home.
She is constantly singing and talking and chirping and squeaking.
Moving, dancing, running.
She is exhausting. And headache inducing, without the help of a hangover.

Then we laid on the couch and watched football.
All day.

Then we made dinner, Goose came home, and we all went to bed early.

I sure did miss that girl but I have to say...
It was awesome to act like ADULTS instead of PARENTS!

Ladies Who Lunch

Harley-beast, Emmy-monster, Goose

These three girls are the highlight of my life!
My sisters and my little girl.
Can you believe I have an 8 and 10 year old sisters?
Goose has an AUNT only 4 years older than her.
They are much more like sisters!

Hubs and I babysat "the girls" on Friday night so my parents could go to a movie.
Goose was excited to have her first sleep over in the new house.
The "squirrels" (as my mother and I call them) played dress up.
At Goose's insistence, I had to get them "wine."
It's just water... still, bad mommy, I know.

We had a little photo shoot.
I shouted directions.
"Be fabulous!"
"Look FIERCE!"
"Smile"
"Look at the camera Goose!"
"More attitude!"

These girls keep me young.

Normalcy

Today is my first official day back to work in 10 days...
Gotta say, it was a wonderful vacation.  Just what I wanted and needed.
And now its time, unfortunately, to get back to normal.
Work. Blah.

I am feeling super invigorated by getting away.

On July 26, my dad, Goose, Hubs and I packed the cars and headed out for Lake CHelan.
It's about a 4 hour drive from home, but its practiacally a world away.
This state never fails to amaze me.
There we were, sitting on a lake in the middile of the mountains.
80 degrees and you could still see snow on the hill tops.
How could I be so lucky to live this close to lakes, mountains, the ocean, and snow...
There isn't a more beautiful place (well, Oregon if you ask Hubs.)

I have been camping in Lake Chelan with my family for as long as I can remember.
Every summer from 6 months to 16 years... when being a bitchy teen got in the way.
I love camping. Wearing only a swimsuit and sunglasses.
No makeup. No heels. No blow dryer.

There was lots of talking, reminicing, contemplating...
drinking. Ugh... tequila is bad news!
Goose did pretty well. She had a ton of fun!
And boy does that girl tan.  I had her slathered in SPF 50 and she still got dark.

I feel like both Goose and my husband got to know my dad a little better.
My dad is so cute with Goose.
And he is still very much my "DAD."
His advice is much easier to take now that I am an adult though.

I have many more posts in progress.
I took over 400 pictures while camping, not to mention 4th of July pictures.
Which are all on my facebook, by the way.
Expect more camping photos and stories this week.
And next week, back to normally scheduled programming.
Whatever that means.

Blog-cation

Just popping in from the lake. My dad has had to work a bit, so he brought his lap top. Complete with WiFi... so I decided to pop in for a bit.
I wanted to say "hello" from Lake Chelan.

Here is my family, un-washed, un-brushed and completely HAPPY!

I've been taking tons of pictires and have lots to share with you all next week.

First Weekend at HOME

The neighborhood we moved to is lovely.
Everyone has beautiful yards and well manicured gardens.
(Well, except for one house. And there is always one...)
And everyone picks up after their dogs.
Awesome.

There are two parks within walking distance.
With toys to play on...

And trees to climb.
Everything is in walking distance.
Parks, food, the mall, the movie theater, JoAnn's...

It was the first nice weekend - Saturday, at least - all year.
So I wore my Bleubird Vintage dress.
I was probably overdressed for the park
but
I really didn't care.
It was finally nice enough to wear the dress w/o a sweater and tights.
I even wore sandals!!

I confess, I took flowers from someones yard.
But in my defense, the house is vacant and for rent.
Goose and I explored the home a bit (it was BEAUTIFUL!)
And in the back yard there was a bush of these beautiful fragrant flowers.
I had to have some for my table.
My whole kitchen smells wonderful.

And Goose made a friend.
A little girl named Taylor who lives a few houses down.
They were fast friends and played for about an hour upon meeting.
And Taylor's parents were super nice and friendly too.

To borrow a line from Annie...
I think I'm gonna like it here.

ETA- Oh, and it turns out that Katrina and Dave, Taylors parents, are from the side of town we just moved from. It happens that Dave's cousin was the one who called 911 when our house was burning.
Got another
"THAT WAS YOU???"
Haha, yup.
Small world, huh?
