Like Mother, Like Daughter

If you follow me on Instagram or keep up with my other blog Loose Ends, you have probably already seen this picture.  I'm going to share it here anyway, I'm just that proud of her.

I carry a notebook with me everywhere I go.  I seldom actually write in it, other than for work, but I always have it on me.  You know, just in case.  Because when I do actually have an idea or want to jot down a thought or a quote, an old crumpled receipt just won't do the trick.  It also comes in handy when we are out at a restaurant and I need something to entertain Goose.

The other night we were out to dinner and she didn't want to draw on the kiddie menu that they gave her so I handed her my notebook.  When I got it back from her, she had made this great sketch for a pair of earrings.  She said it was supposed to be a dream catcher.  I adapted her crayon drawing and made my own sketch.  You can find the full tutorial for these earrings on Loose Ends Craft Blog.

I also taught her how to make earrings a couple of weeks ago. I sat her down before hand and told her that "people pay money for mom to show them how to do what I am teaching you" and that she would need to treat it just like I was her teacher at school.  She did alright turning loops, it's a hard technique for most beginning beaders to grasp as adults, let along an 8 year old.  I also let her try the One-Step Looper tool and she loved it.  It's so easy to use!

Goose loves all manner of crafty things, just like her mama.  She loved it when I showed her the post on Loose Ends and was excited that I credited her for the design.  I can't wait to create more jewelry from her designs and to share with her all of my beading knowledge!

Easy Birthday Invites

I whipped up some easy invitations the other night for Goose's 8th birthday party.  They are ridiculously easy to make.  I used DCWV "All About Girls" mat stack in both the patterned paper and the coordinating card stock.  I used my Cricut to cut out a bunch of number eights in several patterns and then simply glued them to the front of the note cards.  Cute, easy and we (yes, I made her help me!)  were able to whip up a dozen of them in less than an hour. I can't believe she turns EIGHT on Sunday. That is absolutely ridiculous to me. Eight!? EIGHT! My baby is so big these days!

Valentine's Day Photoshoot

Happy Sy. Valentine's Day!

Styled by: Goose
Photographed by: KelsyC

My girl dressed herself for this little photoshoot.
Well, actually, she was dressed this way already.
The sun was shining so we decided to go to the park.
It was a perfect day to take some photos.
So, we stopped and picked up a pink heart balloon.
It was cold and windy but we ma naged to capture some great moments.
See that last picture? I love her silly face so much!!!

Fall Flashback - 2006

I was going through my pictures today because I wanted to share these pics with a friend who just had a baby.  Goose is just about 7 months old in these pictures and it was her first Halloween, all the way back in 2006.  It was before I had a blog, so I'm not sure that I've ever shared these picures here before.  I did a few edits in Picnik (I used the Lomo-ish and Holga-ish actions) and I am really happy with them.  These pictures were taken with a regular old point and shoot, pre-DSLR days, but they came out great.  And yes, that is a REAL pumpkin! It was the biggest one I could carry off the patch.

I can't believe my big girl Goose was ever small enough to fit in a pumpkin!

Fit for a Princess

We finally got Goose a bed this weekend.
A princess bed of her very own.
She has been sleeping on a mattress on the floor... for months.

For her birthday in March, my mother in law wanted to get her a big girl bed.
We couldn't find time to go shopping and in April, we decided to move.
So, we told her we would just wait until we moved into the new house to get her a bed.
She still had her toddler bed anyway.

Then, our house burned down.

Her toddler bed and mattress were still at the old house.
But we were thankful that we didn't ever get around to getting her a new bed.
But unfortunately, it wasn't our #1 priority anymore.

We had to restock the kitchen.
And bathroom.
And buy a new vacuum.

So we just kept putting it off.
Goose never got her bed.

This weekend we decided ENOUGH is ENOUGH!
Our girl needs, nay, deserves, to have a bed of her own.

Hubs wanted to get a bunk bed or a trundle.
I wanted a day bed.
Something cute and girly.

And lucky for us (Goose, my MIL and I)
Hubs wasn't shopping with us.
So we got her something SUPER girly!

He wasn't too thrilled, but its not his bed.
It's Goose's bed.
And she loves it!

She can't wait to get curtains to hang from the canopy.
So she can have "privacy."
Her words, not mine.

She spent a good hour last night making her bed.
And arrainging her babies.

It was definately worth the wait.

Bed found here.
It was only $399 in store!

Ladies Who Lunch

Harley-beast, Emmy-monster, Goose

These three girls are the highlight of my life!
My sisters and my little girl.
Can you believe I have an 8 and 10 year old sisters?
Goose has an AUNT only 4 years older than her.
They are much more like sisters!

Hubs and I babysat "the girls" on Friday night so my parents could go to a movie.
Goose was excited to have her first sleep over in the new house.
The "squirrels" (as my mother and I call them) played dress up.
At Goose's insistence, I had to get them "wine."
It's just water... still, bad mommy, I know.

We had a little photo shoot.
I shouted directions.
"Be fabulous!"
"Look FIERCE!"
"Smile"
"Look at the camera Goose!"
"More attitude!"

These girls keep me young.

Where did she GO?

Pic is from MIL's Facebook page.

My mother in law accepted my Facebook friend request last night.
I spent some time looking at her pics and I came across this one of Little Goose that I hadn't seen before.

That little face is my happiness, but where did she go?
My baby is a kid?!

Goose is so big.
Her personality shines. Can you see the mischief in her eyes?

I am so proud of her!

Sorbet Sunday

I had a full weekend of packing. And cleaning. And moving.
It was... less than fun.

So I had to take many breaks.

And Goose kept lamenting that "cleaning is BOR-ring!"
So, I can make excuses and blame the breaks on her.

She played dress up.
She also unpacked toys faster than we could pack them.

So, I decided to stop at Lowes today and I picked up some seeds.
I had planned on doing this project, but it was more mess than I could handle today.
We planted some seeds instead.
I got basil, tomatoes, peas, watermelon and pumpkin.

I also potted some lemon mint from the yard to take with us.
The gnomes are hanging out in the pot.
My hope is that they will be ready to plant outside by the time we move in a couple weeks.

I also redid my manicure.
I am totally loving the multi-colored nails at the moment.
Even though the weather was crap, I was totally in a springy mood today.

And now, Hubs is in reading Goose a story, I'm up next.
And then, I fully intend to melt into the couch and not move for the rest of the night.

Hope you all had a productive weekend too!

I Take Pictures

Got some outside time with Goose today while taking a break from packing.
I got some good practice in, using the manual function on my camera.
I am trying to get away from AUTO and perfect my "eye".

The sky, as seen from under a tree.

Azaleas in my garden.

Strawberries to be.

My Goose.

Marveling at a miniature leaf.
"It's so precious" she said.

The full moon through a crack in the curtains.
Okay, this wasn't from today, I took it the other night.
But I like it. And I wanted to share.

I did the photo editing in iPhoto and used Poladroid on a few.
Thanks for looking!
