Things That People Without Kids Get To Do

This weekend we found ourselves suddenly and unexpectedly without child.
My mother in law was going to visit family and she wanted a traveling companion.
"SHE'S ALL YOURS!" We both said gladly.
Goose loves her cousin on the "other side of the mountains."
Her and Aubrey are "BEST FRIENDS."

And Friday afternoon, off they went to Kennewick.
We got off work at 5, got home at 5:15 and sat.
We stared at each other.
We walked in circles.
We watched a TV show that we can't watch when Goose is home.
South Park, if you were wondering.

Then we cleaned the kitchen. Together.
And made dinner.
Together.
Hawaiian meatball subs. From scratch. Yumm!
And we didn't eat 'till after 8!

meatballs, teriyaki BBQ sauce, pineapple, grilled onions and Swiss cheese.

We called some friends over and then walked to the bar and played some pool.
It was pretty cool.
Hubs plays pool every week or so at this tavern that's a block away from our house.

Normally, I stay home, because, ya know, someone has to stay with the kid.
But this time I GOT TO GO!
I'm not any good at pool, but its fun to play.

We went to bed at 3 am and didn't get up 'till 10.
When we got up I asked Hubs, "What do people without kids watch on the weekends?"
I flipped through the channels and almost wished Goose was home so I could have an excuse to watch cartoons.  Don't judge me.

And then I cleaned. We cleaned.
Scrubbed the kitchen.
Scrubbed the toilet.
Swept. Mopped. Vacuumed.

And it actually stayed that way!

I even cleaned Goose's room! I was mighty proud of myself.
I love a clean house. I would just love for someone else to clean it.
But I was in a mood and wasn't about to quit.
Still didn't have the will to fight the laundry monster though.
I washed it all... its just on the couch, waiting to be folded.

We didn't make breakfast and had an early lunch so around 4 pm we decided to go get food.
Greasy burgers from the best place in town.
With extra goop!

We took our dinner back home and finished eating and it was only 5 pm.  We had a whole night ahead of us and no plans what-so-ever.
A movie?
Why not?
I searched movie times on my phone (and the Flixster app for Blackberry is AWESOME, btw!)
and we decided to go see The Town directed by Ben Affleck.]

We decided we were bored at 5 pm.
By 6, we had decided on a movie.
And we were in our seats at 7:05 pm.
Just like that. No babysitter. No messing around.

I've never been Ben Affleck's biggest fan.
I love Mallrats and Dogma, but he always played a douche and that's kinda how I saw him.
But ladies, let me tell you, that man has gotten hotter with age.
And the whole "devoted dad, husband, family man" image doesn't hurt.
It reminded me alot like "Departed" with a similar style to "The Shawshank Redemption."
We were both pleased with our choice.

We came home and I made (and destroyed a cake.)
It's a good thing taste buds don't have eyes, cuz it tastes GREAT!

It was 10:30 pm or so, and we were bored.
And wired from cake.
And tipsy from wine.
So, hubs decided we should get some beer.
We collected all the change in the house (cuz we are cool like that) and decided to walk to the gas station down the road.

It was POURING, I mean, just DUMPING rain.
My feet were soaked before we left the driveway.
My coat, completely soaked after a block.
On the way home I ditched my coat and walked in the rain.
It wasn't even that cold.

It's the Water

Then we got home. Drank some beer. Watched TV.
We did "those things" that people do when they love each other, very much.

Then we slept in.
Late.

Hubs made me breakfast in bed but I was hungover.
I don't normally drink enough to be hungover.
I was so glad that my singing Goose wasn't home.
She is constantly singing and talking and chirping and squeaking.
Moving, dancing, running.
She is exhausting. And headache inducing, without the help of a hangover.

Then we laid on the couch and watched football.
All day.

Then we made dinner, Goose came home, and we all went to bed early.

I sure did miss that girl but I have to say...
It was awesome to act like ADULTS instead of PARENTS!

Molly, I miss you!

December 29, 2001 to December 16, 2009

My beloved furbaby passed away yesterday at about 2 in the morning. She was my first baby. I've had her ever since I moved out after I graduated. Her mother is my mom's dog and I remember picking her out of the litter as my own the first time I ever saw her.

She was sleek black and the only one with white markings on her chest and toes.

Molly loved to chase balls. Not just balls, but anything round, or throw-able. Sticks, soda bottles, rope... bubbles, (God, the bubbles. I hope there are bubbles in doggie heaven). Balloons and "the light" made her batty. Before Goose was born, she was SO spoiled. She loved to get dressed up and wear her pretties (scarves/handkerchiefs).

This dog wanted nothing more than to play. She would run and run until she was panting and her legs would shake. Molly loved water and going to the beach to chase sticks. She loved going for walks with Goose and I, although she never did great on a leash.

When she was younger, we let her sleep in bed with us. She would sleep right at my feet, curled in a ball. And when I was sick, she would lay with me as if she knew. She loved to wrestle around the bed, covered in blankets, trying to "give kisses" to me or Hubs or Goose.

Molly was so good with Goose. Never bit her, not once, though it would have been deserved the way Goose would torment her so. She put up with a lot and still loved her. The day she died, her tail wagged so hard when we came home and she just laid there as Goose smothered her with hugs and kisses.

She wasn't alone when she went. Hubs was right by her side as her breathing slowed and she peacefully passed on.

I had her and loved her for 8 years. In the past year or so, she had begun to had hip problems (common for labs) and I recently noticed cataracts growing in her eyes. I hope she wasn't in too much pain before she went and I know where she is now, she feels no pain at all.

Molly, you were my best friend.
You got me through a lot of tough times and I will miss you SO MUCH.

Love you Mo-Dizz!
Love, Mama

I feel like I'm cheating on my child...

With beer and scrapbooking!

Hubs and I went out to dinner last night. At a bar. I had a delicious club sandwich and a pint of my FAVORITE beer (Rouge Hazelnut Brown). It's a somewhat local brew, from the Rouge Brewery in Oregon. It's dark and nutty and has yummy coffee undertones without being bitter or too nutty like some dark beers are.

It felt SO WEIRD and WRONG to be out. On a weeknight. Without my baby. No Goose to read bedtime stories to or blow me endless kisses. No little arms wrapped so tightly around my neck I can hardly breathe. No body quaking giggles, no silly grins...

But we did see friends that we haven't been able to hang with for a while (ya know, the childless ones), shot a few games of pool and when we got home, late, I scrapbooked afterwards, so it's not like I'm drowning in tears here. It's just that my partner in crime is missing.

Anyway, here is the LO I got done. It's my DT LO for my LSS. It was an ad challenge, a pretty tough on for me, it was very square and not really my style, but I'm actually pretty satisfied with the LO I came up with.

Title is kinda hard to read, it says "Always the family photog" and the journaling relates to how I'm always behind the lense and how sometimes its fun to turn the camera on myself.

All the cute little owlies are from my friend, Lacey. And don't you just love these funky papers from Bo Bunny?

I want my Baby Back...baby back...baby back!

On Tuesday night Hubs, Goose and I went out to dinner with the IL's, they had been gone for a couple weeks and just got back into town so we hadn't seen them for a while and they took us out to dinner.

At some point during dinner, they brought up that they wanted to upgrade their RV and were going to drive to Montana to do it. (Aparently there is some loophole that will allow them to buy w/o tax? IDK?) Well, MIL asked (I think just jokingly at first) if Goose wanted to go with them.

Hubs and I looked at each other and I had to ask "Are you serious? You're serious, right?" Dandy (aka FIL) didn't seem quite on board with the idea but MIL was all gung-ho and she usually gets what she wants. LOL.

So yesterday morning Hubs and I packed up the little bird and sent her off with MIL. I know she is going to have so much fun with her Grandparents but walking into a childless house is hard. Especially seeing her little bed, all empty at bedtime. On the plus side though, Hubs and I just loafed around and I scrapped for a while last night. I got a LO done, but I can't show it to you quite yet. It's for a contest and I won't be able to post it 'till um... next Friday?

Anyway, the house is so quiet, eerily quite. There are all these toys around but no child to play with them. I can't say that Hubs and I didn't spend a good portion of time talking about how much we missed her laugh, her smile, her face. We found the way to pass some time though. Adult time, alone in the house, very loudly. ;")

Goose will be back sometime on Saturday. Hubs and I are thinking of hitting the bars on Friday night, something we haven't done in approximately 3 yrs and 9 mos. We might just meet up afterwork and do a happy hour. I can't say I've ever been to a happy hour. (I got preggo about 6 mo. after I turned 21 so.....)

As much as I am enjoying the alone time with Hubs and just the overall change of pace, I miss her and I can't wait to be mommy again. That's not to say I won't enjoy my time while shes gone (and I'm sure she's having a BLAST too!), but I can't wait to devour every last piece of her when she gets home on Saturday!!!!!!
