Bow Tie

Betsy Johnson "Iconic" Collection

Bow Necklace

AND HERE IS WHAT I MADE
It used to be a hairclip.
It broke ages ago and it was too pretty to throw away.
So I saved it.
Well, inspired by all the beautiful bow tie jewelry on trend right now,
I pulled out my broken clip and set to work making a necklace.
I love how it turned out!
I paired it with black, white, and cream peals and used black ribbon to fasten it.

I really want the "Don't Forget" ring above. It's so pretty!

Quite a Pair - Of Chairs!

Have you ever wondered WHO actually picks up the crap people leave on the side of the road with a "FREE" sign?
Yeah, well, I am one of those people.
And in our neighborhood, people do it all the time. And sometimes its pretty nice stuff.

On the very day I saw this tutorial on Elsie's blog, I found a chair on the side of the road.
It was equally as sad as the one pictured, but I didn't draw a smiley face on mine.

I patched the hole with duct tape and dissassembled the chair, which was pretty easy since the directions are printed on the underside of the seat.  Unfortuately, the top of the chair wouldn't come off, the screws were rusty and bent, so I just covered it with a plastic bag.

Then I painted it with Krylon in a nice aqua blue. My plan was to make it opposite of this chair, so both Goose and I can have a seat in my craft room.

I found this rusty red cotton fabric at JoAnn's. It's the same kind of fabric I used for the first chair, only a different color. The reds aren't quite the same shade, but I like the way they look together. I used my glue gun to attach the fabric to the chair. I carefully folded the fabric and glued it in place.

The pillows are from Dollar Tree.  With some left over fabric, I sewed a few rosette flowers and attached them with my glue gun.  I don't know where they will end up, but I thought they looked cute in the pictures.
Thanks for looking!

An Easy DIY - Nerd Glasses

Do you go to movies?
How about 3-D ones?

Personally I think this whole 3-D fad is just a ruse for the movie companies to make more money off our sorry selves.  $10 for a movie! And no discount rates! Not even for kids! WTF!?

So, I'm sure you know, the theaters request that you "recycle" the glasses after the movie.
Most likely so they can re-package and re-sell them with their $10 movie tickets.
Lame.
I mean, $50 for a family (of 3) outing is a tad rediculous.
So... I keep mine.
Most of them get thrown away at home.
But its the principle people!!!

Anyway, I got kinda sick of tossing them and tried to think of something else to do with them.
And since nerd glasses are all the "rage" right now (I guess...)
I thought I would try out a little DIY.
They are pretty great for dress up!

Okay, so this is WAY easy.

First, remove the plastic lenses.
Its really simple.
They just pop out.

Then, using black fingernail polish, cover the 3-D logo.
It may take 2-3 coats to cover completely.
Let dry.

DONE!

Now, wear them to your nerdy hearts content!!

ENJOY!!

ETA - I really like Miss. Candy's suggesstion of adding glitter.
You could also glue on rhinestones for a "retro" look.
I was thinking of seeing if I could make these yarn glasses I saw on RVA.
You could even spray paint the glasses for a range of colors.
Think of the possibilities!!

Cute Tutorial Tuesday!

I saw this super cute tutorial on Craftzine.

I love what Nikki at Whimsy Love did with her moving boxes,
using them to create an awesome little guest bed nook for a friend!

I may just have to borrow this idea my self!

Craft Remission

Photobucket

So my plan today was to be lazy.
Just do nothing. I busted my butt yesterday cleaning and today I wanted to relax.

Last night we lost power and Goose woke up in the middle of the night scared so I brought her to bed with Hubs and I. Which means that I got no sleep. But Goose slept until almost 11!! I got up at 9, did some Wii Fit and went back to bed for a bit.

Then Goose got up and we watched cartoons. Well, she watched cartoons and I fell back asleep on the couch. I woke up around lunch time-ish, whenever that was. Made some lil smokies for lunch and then watched "Too Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar." Oh, its one of my favorite movies. Miss Vida Boehm, Noxema Jackson, and Chichi Rodriguez. Definately one of my top 5 favorite movies EVER!

Then I sorted Gooses clothes and got a big box of things that were too small. I'll either give it to a friend or donate it to Goodwill. Now her clothes fit in her dresser again. HA!

And that was the extent of what I did today.
And really, it was more than I wanted to do.
BUT, while digging though the GW box,
I found a couple pairs of maternity jeans I was going to get rid of.
I decided I could make better use of the fabric...

Photobucket

Photobucket

I chopped up one of the legs.
The flower I'll be showing you requires 5 petals cut as shown above.
(Mine are roughly 1in tall and 2in wide)
Size according to the size of your finished flower.

Stitch them together using a running/gathering stitch. Shape and secure petals in place. Add a center. I used beads on these flowers, but you can use buttons or earrings (ya know, the ones that have lost their mate) or glue rhinestones on them... whatever suits your fancy.

Photobucket>

To finish the flower off, I cut a small heart out of felt and attached it to the back of my flower with fabric glue (hot glue would work too, or you could stitch it in place). Not only does this cover the stitching but it also adds a sturdy foundation if you chose to make a brooch or hair clip.

Photobucket

Personally, I just attach my blooms with a plain old safety pin. Then you can wear it like a brooch or attach it to a hair tie or bobby pin it in your hair. The safety pin goes through the felt much easier than the flower fabric which is al bunched and sewn.

I like adding blooms to hats.
It can completely change the WHOLE look!

(You may remember this hat from my last Wardrobe Remix post...)

And a few more styles:

Hope you like them!
I have "grown" quite the garden recently!
Oh, how I love fleurs!

Nothing too terribly special.
Took my cheap/old/loved slippers from WM and gave them a mini face lift with some scrap black sweatshirt fabric, left over from a re-fashion.

A Scrappy EARTH DAY Blog Hop

Here come the ASP bunnies again, hippity hoppin' along, why don't you join us? You may remember this post from earlier this month... well, we're back!

Photobucket

And this time we have challenged ourselves (and you, if you want to play along, just link your LO in my comments) just for fun! And in honor of Earth Day our challenge was to use recycled materials on our LO.

This time I am linking up to my friend Tiffany, she has a really cute LO up. It's a lift of Jodie's that I have been drooling over for ages. Both of them made some AMAZING LO's, so go check them out!

So... here is my LO. I decided to kill two birds with one stone and use this as my Week 2 Rise to the Challenge LO. It was an Ad Challenge and we also had to use the ad as a scraplift?) that part confused me. We also had to use a clear object, my clear object was cut from the front of a Barbie box. Cinderella, if you must know!

Here is the ad:

And my LO:

Some close ups, you can see the clear (recycled!) item better in these. It was hard to get a good photo w/ the glare from the flash.

And here is the feedback I got from the judges panel (A worm? Really? My colors don't match? Hmmm......):

I like how you punched and cut the flowers. Maybe it’s the lighting, but the pictures and the pp don’t look like they coordinate. Very creative source for the plastic; however, the long skinny shape looks odd. Those are some cute pictures of your family!
I love how you did your title! I'm not so sure about the flourish - the shape of it looks a little worm-like to me, lol - but I think that this is a fun & funky LO! Good job!
I really like this! The colors all pop and the design is right on!
The glitter chipboard seems out of place in this LO. A bit distracting, imo. Love the title you picked. Very clever to make the swirl out of packaging material.
Very nice!

Eh... not saying I agree, but I'm pretty happy with my points. Many of my fellow blog hoppers are playing RTTC as well, so if you want to see my competition, go check out their blogs!

Yeah, and I had to add a flower to it. Not sure if I should have... oh well, these babies are in the mail!

And these aren't hybrid at all. Just another hand at green scrapping! I've had these acetate sheets in my stash forever just waiting for the right project. I thought some "ghost" birds might be in order. So hard to take a picture of thought! I added a bid of paint and rhinestones for eyes. Die by Sizzix.

Scrap Idol - Week 4

Our LO for week four could not be square and it had to be either red and yellow (my Varsity was my first attempt, then I got this idea...) or blue and orange.

The other day I bought Goose a Doodle Pro, and I was recycling the box, pulling out the plastic, because I;m a good little recycler like that and it occured to me that the plastic was about the same size as a LO, so I cut it into this flower shape and went to town!

Here is what I came up with!

Humble Beginings

This tag once lived on a pair of pant's at Steve and Barry's. Well, not too long ago, I bought those pants and decided that this tage was far too nice to throw away. It was sturdy and textured and screaming to be altered!

Don't believe me? Here is the proof!

The PP used on this was left over from Kat's July girl SMS!
