Painted Shoes #FAIL

Not all craft projects work out.
Even when you follow the directions to a T.

I bought some shoes for $5 at Goodwill.
I painted them bright green.
Used primer, couple coats of paint and a couple coats of sealant.
Waiting between each step for them to dry.

They looked great.
Until I wore them for the first time.

*Sorry for the crappy pics, I'm limited to my cell phone at the moment.*

Not sure what I did wrong.
Should I have used Modge Podge instead of acrylic sealer?
I thought about sanding the shoes first with fine grain sandpaper to rough up the leather to make the paint hold.
Or I wonder if I tried the same technique I used to paint my vintage bag.
I haven't had any problems with the paint chipping off the bag.
BUT
Purses don't really endure the same wear and tear as shoes.

I definately want to try this again, with a little tweaking.
And I want to try out Kathleen's other Shoe Re-Do's as well.

Made

Told you I was gonna make these shoes!

I was digging through my craft stuff, working on my Craft x NW display and I found a long black zipper!
And then I dug out an old pair of Old Navy flipflops got to work.

*Ew, I need a new pedicure! I know what I'm doing tonight!*

I think they turned out pretty cute.
I think I want more colors.
If I didn't have everything on hand, I would say these could be made for under $5.
Cool, huh?
I think next time, I want to experiment with a different shapped bloom.
But these are fun!!

Here are another pair of plain shoes that I spiffed up a bit.

Cheapo slipper shoes from Walmart.
Made pretty with blooms made from reclaimed jeans.
I had bought them to be house shoes,
but since adding the flowers I have actually worn them a few times.
As real shoes.

Got any projects planned for the weekend?
Nothing for me here.
Got a baby shower for a friend on Saturday.
Then, just lots of packing and cleaning.

WE ARE MOVING!
(More details to come)
YAY!
And it even has a craft room.
And a small garden so I can plant stawberries.

Anyway, no crafts planned for me, although, I'm sure I'll make something!
:)
Hopefully I will get my JillofallTradesCRAFT stuff photographed so
I can have a "preview" of my Craft x NW merchandise!

TODAY IS THE LAST DAY!

I Bet I Can Make These

Shoes from Lulu's

I might just have to give it a try this weekend.
I already have black zippers and filp-flops galore.
They are cute, but I don't need to spend $17 (+ship) for another pair of flip-flops.
Zipper shoes weren't too hard to make the first time, either.

Oh,
&
I think projects like this just may be the reason I am always so tired during the day.
;)

Jump Start!

So I've decided to get a small jump start on the "projects" I want to accomplish this weekend!
I just couldn't help it!
I was inspired!
I had to!!!

I decided to use these two pieces from ModCloth as inspiration.

I wanted to tackle the zipper shoes and ruffle shirt.

I already had a pair of plain brown pumps that were just waiting for embellishment.
Embellish shoes? Who knew?
I never would of thought of it without the internetz.
And zippers? LUV!

And as soon as I saw the top, I wanted it!
But it was sold out.

:(

So... after seeing the tutorial on Tea Rose Home, a lightbulb went off.
I decided to DIY it!

Yes, I'm still scared of my sewing machine, but hand-sewing only took about an hour.
I did it at work, between breaks, lunch and down time.
Sadly, my boss even gave me a hard time for being afraid of my sewing machine.
He know me too well.
Thats what happen when you work for someone for six years.

Anyway...

I plan on wearing it tomorrow, a little wardrobe remix is in order.
Maybe I'll wear the shoes tomorrow night, they are a little too HOT for a law office!

And I've been a little more crafty tonight than I even planned!
I've been making some nifty rope necklaces too!
I picked up some upholstery cording from J's
(in the tutorial she uses the pre-made tie-backs, but the by-the-foot cord is beautiful!)
Next time I hope I have more time to wait at the cutting counter.
Anyway, here is one that I've made.

Personally, I;m not a fan of big necklaces. I;m more of a big earring girl.
So... these just might end up in the shoppe.
While digging through my stash I found some great Chinese knotted necklaces and what-nots. Samples that Hubs got when he used to work at the bead store.
I've added some pendants and they are much more dainty then the one shown above.

Okay... I have more crafting to do!!!
LUVS!!

Made it Cute

Nothing too terribly special.
Took my cheap/old/loved slippers from WM and gave them a mini face lift with some scrap black sweatshirt fabric, left over from a re-fashion.

New Years Resolution #1

Make it Cute!!!

Photobucket

Check out this awesome tutorial from Disney at Ruffles and Stuff. She meant for it to be a quick and easy last minute Christmas gift.... but I got a pair of these for Christmas, and they had these aweful bows with pompoms on the end. The poms were stiff and hard and got caught on stuff... ANYWAY, I remembered this tutorial and thought I would spice up my "granny slippers" with some vintage fabric and buttons!

This is my first New Years Resolution. Make it Cute!  From my slippers, to my hair styles... even my home.  I resolve to "make it cute," all of it. And on a dime too.  Cuz you all know about my unnatural love of the Dollar Tree.  I've already begun decorating for Valentines Day... and I haven't even taken all my Christmas decorations down yet!

I'm cheap AND crafty!

So do you want the cheap part or the crafty part first?

Photobucket

CHEAP PART... ;)

Got some new, super cute YELLOW shoes from Target and a shirt to match. Both $10 and I just couldn't resist the yellow shoes (the shirt was just to match... hehehe) I stood in the shoe section for what seemed like HOURS with one black shoe on my left foot and one yellow shoe one my right. On one hand, the black ones were practical and I would undoubtedly would get more wear out of them... but the yellow ones were SO CUTE. And impractical. But CUTE. So I went with those. They have a small kitten heel but still look like a flat. And I'm short so I don't really do flats... unless they are flip flops... (but thats a whole different post here... wait 'till summer and I will devote a whole post to them.)

Photobucket

Totally loving the ruffles and the bow. I have been wearing them for 2 days straight (not quite, but almost). I keep looking at my feet and smiling, and apparently telling Hubs how much I love them b/c we just had a conversation that went a little like this...

Me: I'm so happy I bought the yellow ones!
Hubs: Yeah... (sarcastic tone)... I can tell.
Me: So what... I like them.
Hubs: They're cute... (still sarcastic)
Me: Ugh... I don't care what you say... I LOVE them.
Hubs: I love you.
Me: giggle
*goofy smile*

How does he still get me like that! Right down to the butterflies in my stomach (note to self: you know you are a mom when you almost type "tummy", not sexy) and shivers down my spine.

Anyway, we are getting off topic. So, this purse I got at Goodwill, $5, nice and its reversible, sweet. I like the red side right now, it looks super cute with the ribbon roses I made.  (Experimenting with the self timer here, so... sorry for the blur...)

Photobucket

I've been making a ton of them. I even made some to sell in my shoppe. I think they turned out pretty cute, if you ask me.

Some of these are to keep, some are to sell. I'm trying not to keep all the REALLY CUTE ones ya know and put them in my store, but that sh*t is hard. I love crafting... but parting is such sweet sorrow. LOL. I am keeping this one though...

Photobucket

... because it looks cute with this outfit and my yellow shoes!
