WIWT - Old Tights

I've had these tights since high school.  I have no idea how they have survived this long.
I bought them my senior year when I took a trip with my family to Japan.
The shopping there is AH-may-ZING!
I'm a quarter Japanese. We went (my dad, bother, Grandma and I) to Japan and I got to meet so many different relatives.
My grandmother's brother and sister. Her mother. Cousins.
It was really an amazing experience!
I would love to go back to Japan as an adult, I was only 17 when we went, so I missed out on alot!

Sweater: Old Navy, $6
Grey top: Walmart, $7
Red cami: Walmart, $5
Skirt: Target, $10
Tights: from Japan
Shoes: gifted

The "Uniform"

You thought I was joking, huh?
I really don't wear skirts and dresses every day.
I live in Washington. It rains.
What can I say... I may be a girl but I am practical.
And I lurves me my blue jeans and t-shirts!

Are you seeing a trend?
Jeans, tees, cardigans...
It helps that I work at a pretty cool law office.
I don't need to dress up every day for work.
But I do, often.

So my 2-6-1 deal is still going strong.
I haven't gone shopping except for at Goodwill and Fun Junk.
I got a new summer dress for under $10 from Goodwill and
a new RED vintage Samsonite bag to add to my collection from Fun Junk for $15.

I need to take pics of my Samsonite collection for you.
Some day...

Dickies Kind of Day - What I Wore

It's the first day in ages that I haven't worn something I have made.
I feel weird.
Like I am betraying myself.

Meh...

I felt exceptionally lazy and uninspired this morning.
I just wanted to wear something comfortable.

The orange top and dickies are from two of the coolest second hand stores in Oly.
Mandelins, a consignment shop and
Dumpster Values, the most amazing clothing thrift store.
Its the quintessential hotspot for Oly-ites.
My dickies (actually purchased by Hubs) are from their dollar bin.
Not only is Dumpster Values just rad, they support the "green" lifestyle.
Granola, or whatever you wanna call it.
They also support local artists.
Which I love!

Sweater: Thrifted, Mandelins, $10
Tank: Walmart, $6
Pants: Thrifted, Dumpster Values, $1
Necklace/Earrings: Walmart, $10
Cuff bracelet: Value Village, $3
Boots: Hot Kiss, $40

I was attempting to go for the boyfriend pants look today.
I don't know what kind of shoes to wear.

Well, if it hadn't been so cold and wet this morning,
I might have pegged/rolled the legs and worn some wedges instead.

Ideas?
How do you work the "boyfriend" style pant?

Easy Cardigan RE-fashion

I got this sweater in the men's department at Value Village.

It was $5 or $6, definately under $10, I don't remember.
It was missing some buttons and had a cheezy Izod logo on it.
I replaced the buttons with these skully buttons I found at the Dollar Tree of all places.
And then I added the iron-on decal from JoAnn's.
Another three bucks.

So, for about $10-ish,
I was able to convert an un-loved cardigan into
this stylish masterpiece.
"Boyfriend" sweaters are all the rage, aren't they?

Today, I'm wearing it over a thrifted white button up and
a corderoy pencil skirt.
Black pinstripe tights and sky high black heels to finish the look.

My mom called me "preppy" this morning.
You tell me, are skull buttons preppy?
I wasn't really going for that.

Meh, I like it!

And this is what I wore yesterday.
My dress from Lulu's finally came last week!
It was backordered for-ev-r!

Friday Was a Good Hair Day!

For me, curly hair is a dream.
And only a dream.

I have quintessential Asian hair.
Thin, lots of it, and stick straight.

BUT

I think I found a technique to get my hair beachy, wavy, curly-ish!
Okay, here are my tips!

  • Wash hair at night. Allow to dry partially. You want your hair to be damp.

  • Apply hair gel. Brush to spread evenly.

  • French braid. One or two braids is sufficient for short hair. If you have longer or thicker hair, I suggesst more braids. You want each braid to be about an inch wide or they won't dry completely overnight.

  • Apply a light misting of hairspray. I use this. It's magic.

  • Sleep.

  • Hairspray. Blowdry for about 5 min. Allow to cool. Hairspray again.

  • Take out braids. Fluff and hairspray.

  • Using a 1in. curling iron, curl random pieces. Apply hairspray both before and after curling.

  • Allow hair to cool completely.

  • Hairspray and fluff.

  • Using a small amount of shine serum, smooth and frizzy areas and ends.

  • Hairspray again.

  • Done!
So, you see, its quite an extensive process though,
actually quite quick and easy.
Since the hair is braided and dry the actual
morning style time is pretty quick.

This technique will also work for gals with naturally curly hair or for hair that holds a curl.
Same idea, just not as much product!.

Then, pop on a pretty JillofallTradesCRAFT flower headband and
you are Good to Go!

Weekly Wardrobe Post!

Wednesday

Tuesday

Monday

Thursday
*yes, I know my pics aren't in order*
*I'm too lazy to fix it*

Going strong on my 2-6-1 challenge.
At least so far. And we have been broke.
So I couldn't shop if I wanted to.

And I want to.

BAD.

I have a whole cart full of stuff at Lulu's and Modcloth.

I want it. I need it!
I *might* just "reward" myself with it if my shop at Craft x NW does well.
Or maybe a "consolation" if it doesn't.
I can't stop thinking about this dress.

Other than that.
I'm doing okay so far.

I know, it's only been a week.
I have a long way to go and I know it will only get harder.

But seriously,

I want that dress!!!

PS - I have been making a point to wear at least ONE of my JillofallTradesCRAFT products everyday. So keep an eye out on my wardrobe posts for new stuff!

PPS - I promised a give-away at 15,000 visits and I hit that last night!
Yay!! I promised and I will deliver.
I just may not get to the post until Saturday.
So keep an eye out for BLOG CANDY!!!!
(It will be stuff from my shop!)

WIWT - RVA/Elsie Dress!

When my mom saw me today she asked,
"What are you? Twelve?"

Yeah, I know.  I'm not normally a "dress-over-pants" girl.
In fact, its not a look I care for.
Okay... detest.

But I got this dress from RVA made by Ms. Elsie herself.
And I have really wanted to wear it.

Well,  I wore it to Goose's birthday party last Saturday,
with magenta tights, a yellow cardi and my cowboy boots.
But I forgot my camera.
And didn't get ANY party pictures. At all.

But it was cold today. Like, really cold.
Storming cold.
SNOWING, on April 2nd, cold.
So I wore pants. Yup.

I also cut my hair today.
I decided I needed short bangs.
They are a little longer than I want, but that will be fixed.
I like them. Its a fun change!

What do you think of my earrings?
I found some COOL knit buttons in a grab bag from Fun Junk and
made them into earrings!

Do the short bangs make me look younger?
More Asian?
Huh...
I haven't had bangs since I was eight, I think!

Really?

So, I have to admit, after hitting "PUBLISH" on my mission statement post last night, I had a bit of a panic attack.

Did I really, I mean REALLY, just commit to a year of no (limited) spending?

REALLY?

I asked Hubs...
"What did I just do?"

"You committed to something."
He said simply.

I sighed.

Yeah, I did.
Darn it!

So, its done. And I'm gonna do it.  And I intend to learn a lot by doing this.
I hope to learn to be a little more self-sufficient.
Obviously, learn to use my sewing machine. ::blush::
I don't want to be a slave to "style" but still be stylish.
Become more conscious of my budget and more creative with my wardrobe.
I hope this creativity will bleed into all aspects of my life.

This is going to be a whole new era of frugatlity, creativity and style.

Here we go!
Time to make an ADVENTURE!
